The snow storm moved in early this Thursday morning, March 1st. With predictions of a winter storm warnings, and even a blizzard warning starting Thursday morning working it way through Friday, and even into Saturday. Wind gusts to over 100 mph over the ridges and peaks. News warnings of an atmospheric river hitting the Tahoe region, a term we are all too familiar with after are record breaking winter in 2017. Were happy to embrace the fresh powder to the Truckee and North Lake Tahoe region for what were all hoping for…a Miracle March.
Squaw Valley recorded 7″ of snow at the base as of 5AM, and it has continues to dump fresh powder as much as 4″ an hour since then. “Heavy snowfall is expected today with another foot+ expected on the mountain. That continues tonight but with colder air and higher snow ratios. That could bring another 2 feet overnight. For Friday we are expected lighter snowfall rates, but several more inches could accumulate. Then Friday night a 3rd wave of heavier snowfall moves through and could drop another foot of snow. Lingering snow showers into Saturday could add a few more inches. In total we are still expecting 3-5 feet of snow from this storm by Saturday night.”- Bryan Allegreto’s weather blog
